Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Like K. collects, why, who processes it and what choices you have. THE KLAAE (“we”, “us”) is the data controller — the company responsible for your data. Our address and contact details are at the end of this policy. We keep this in plain language on purpose. If anything is unclear, write to privacy@likek.app.
1. What we collect
Account information. Your email address, the display name you enter, and how you signed up (email, Apple or Google). If you sign in with Apple and choose “Hide My Email”, we receive the private relay address Apple creates instead of your real email. If you sign in with Google, Google sends us your email address and name. Passwords (email sign-up only) are stored in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see them.
Profile. Your interface language, native language and time zone (we use the time zone so “today” and your study streak are correct where you live); a profile photo if you add one; the topics you are interested in; and how you heard about Like K. if you told us at sign-up. You can also share your age range and gender — this is optional, used only in aggregated form to understand how learners study, and never shown to anyone.
Learning data. Your placement-test result and level, the lessons, articles and Drama episodes you open and finish, quiz and speaking results, words and phrases you save, articles and episodes you like, the days you studied (for your streak), and the points and badges you earn.
Usage information. How you use the app: when you open and leave it, how long you spend on an article and how much of it you read, how long you watch lesson videos, when you open Lucky Note, and when you view the subscription screen or start a purchase (the plan and whether it went through). We record this ourselves, in our own database, linked to your account.
Voice. When you practise speaking — in lessons or Drama — the app records the sentence you say. See section 3.
Purchases. If you subscribe, we receive your subscription status and plan from Apple through RevenueCat, together with your Like K account ID (a random code that doesn’t include your name or email). We never see or store your payment card details — Apple handles payment.
Technical data. Each request to our servers carries your app version, device language and time zone. Our service providers keep standard server logs, including your IP address, for a short time for security and troubleshooting. Like K. does not include any third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK; the usage information above is recorded by us, not by an analytics company.
Stored only on your device. Your study-reminder settings, your Lucky Note animal, your Drama voice choice, which screen guides you have seen and your appearance choice stay on your device and are not sent to us. Study reminders are local notifications scheduled by the app — we do not collect a push-notification token.
2. Why we use it and our legal basis
To provide Like K. — create your account, keep your progress in sync across your devices, place you at the right level, choose suitable articles, score your pronunciation and manage your subscription. Legal basis: performing our contract with you.
To keep the service secure and working — prevent abuse, fix problems and protect accounts. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a safe, reliable service.
To understand how learners study and use the app, in aggregate, and improve our content and the app. Legal basis: legitimate interest; for optional age range and gender, your consent.
To use your microphone. Legal basis: your consent, which you give through the iOS microphone permission and can withdraw in iOS Settings at any time.
To keep records we are legally required to keep. Legal basis: legal obligation.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
3. Your voice recordings
A recording is sent to a speech-recognition service so the words you said can be compared with the target sentence. The recording is used only to produce that score. It stays on your device only while you practise that sentence or scene, it is never stored on our servers or by the speech-recognition provider, and it is not used to train AI models.
Speaking practice in lessons is optional — skip it with “I can’t speak now” — and you can deny microphone access in iOS Settings at any time.
4. Who processes data for us
We use a small number of service providers. They act only on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.
- Supabase — accounts, authentication and our database, hosted in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
- Cloudflare — delivery of video, audio and subtitles for lessons and Drama; storage of profile photos; and the speech recognition (Workers AI) that scores your recordings.
- Resend — sends account emails such as verification codes.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, and subscription purchases through the App Store.
- Google — Sign in with Google, only if you choose it.
- RevenueCat — keeps our record of your subscription status in sync with Apple.
- Vercel — hosts this website (see section 14).
Apart from these providers, we share personal data only if the law requires it, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or — with notice to you — if our business is transferred to a new owner.
5. International transfers
Like K. is operated from the Republic of Korea and our main database is located there. Some of our providers are based in the United States or run global networks, so your data may be processed outside your country.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland: the European Commission and the UK have recognised the Republic of Korea as providing adequate data protection. For providers outside those areas we rely on approved safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
6. How long we keep it
While you have an account, we keep your account, profile and learning data so the service works.
When you delete your account, deletion completes 30 days after your request (to cancel it, sign in during that period and tap “Keep my account”). At that point your profile, learning data, usage information and any profile photo are removed, and we email you to confirm the deletion is complete.
After deletion we keep a minimal deletion record — a hashed form of your email address (not reversible), how you signed up, and when — for 90 days, so we can answer questions about the deletion and prevent abuse, and then erase it. If you ever paid for a subscription, we keep records relating to those payments for 5 years, as tax and accounting law requires.
Detailed usage records are kept for 180 days and then deleted. A daily summary of your activity (for example, how long you studied each day) is kept while you have an account, as part of your learning data.
Voice recordings are never stored on our servers (section 3). Server logs are kept for a short period by our providers and then deleted.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy in a portable format, restrict or object to how we use it, and withdraw consent you have given. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act you also have the right to know what we collect and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights; we do not sell or share personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@likek.app from the address on your account. We will respond within one month, or sooner if your local law requires. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
8. Deleting your account
Open the app and go to Profile → Settings → Delete account. Deletion completes 30 days later, and we email you when it is done; if you sign in before then and tap “Keep my account”, the request is cancelled and nothing is removed. If you cannot access the app, email privacy@likek.app from the address on your account and we will handle it for you. Step-by-step: How to delete your account.
Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription. Cancel it in your Apple Account settings first, or Apple may keep charging you.
9. Children
Like K. is not directed at children under 13, or under the higher minimum age that applies where you live. We do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email privacy@likek.app and we will delete it.
10. Tracking and advertising
We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, we do not use the iOS advertising identifier, and there are no third-party advertising or analytics trackers in Like K. We do not sell your personal data or share it for advertising.
11. Security
Data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections. Access to our systems is limited to what each person and service needs, and our database enforces per-user access rules. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and will notify you and the relevant authority of a data breach where the law requires it. If you find a security problem in Like K., please report it to privacy@likek.app.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Like K. changes. The effective date at the top shows the current version. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.

14. This website
Analytics. likek.app uses Vercel Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly service that counts page views and a few interactions (for example, that the name-to-Hangul tool was used or shared, or the starter pack was downloaded). It does not use cookies, does not store your IP address and does not identify you.
Name-to-Hangul tool. Your name is converted, and the share image is created, in your browser — neither is sent to us.
Starter pack. The free starter pack PDF is a direct download. We do not ask for your email address to get it.
Use of the app and this website is governed by our Terms of Use.
